Happy Monday everyone! I hope your Monday is going well. Today is my middle daughter’s 32nd birthday and I wanted to share the card I made for her. This child came out of the womb with a “I do it myself” attitude and has never changed. But then when you enter the world at 10 lbs. and 22 3/4″ long, you pretty much can do anything you want. She was actually turning her head over before she was 6 hours old! Besides being a beautiful human being (and no, I’m not prejudiced when it comes to my kids. lol) she is also my web designer. I can’t say enough of how proud I am of her!! But I’ve digressed…back to the card! lol Here are the measurements:

  • Card base in Melon Mambo, cut at 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″
  • Tangerine Tango layer cut at 3 3/4″ x 5″
  • Watercolor Paper cut at 3 1/2″ x 4 3/4″

Now I know this color combo is completely out of my box, but they are the brand colors of my daughter’s business Alchemic Creations. Now for those that aren’t familiar with “branding” in the business world, you actually see it every day and don’t even realize it. I know, this is a nerd thing, but once you’ve had to “brand” something, your eyes open to all of this. My brand colors are Leopard Print, Turquoise Glitter, Pink and Green. I bet you go back and look at mine a little closer now!  😉

So I knew I was going to use Melon Mambo, Tangerine Tango, and Basic Black, but I wanted something just a little different. And this is where the Brusho Crystals came in to play. I haven’t played much with them, so I thought, let’s do this! I spritz the piece of Watercolor Paper with water and sprinkled on the Gamboge (orange) crystals and them some of the Brilliant Red. I spritzed on just a bit more of water and added some of the Yellow crystals. I will say, a little goes a long way and if you don’t want a complete watercolor effect, go easy on the water. I set that aside to dry and then cut out the Happy Birthday with the framelits in Basic Black. Once the watercolor paper was dry, I wanted some sparkle to it, so I swiped on some Wink of Stella. I really like how it turned out. Then I adhered it to the Tangerine Tango layer and added a piece of the retired Melon Mambo Stitched Ribbon. There are only a few things that retire that I actually keep, and the stitched ribbon is one of them. I just hate it when it retires because I love the texture of it so much. It makes beautiful bows! I adhered it all down to the card base and then added some of the retired Black Rhinestones. Yes, when we found out these were retiring, I stocked up! Here’s a look at the inside of the card:

I wanted to stick with the watercolor effect, but still wanted to be able to write inside, so I pulled out my Work of Art stamp set. I used Tangerine Tango ink and stamped off first, then stamped it on the Whisper White layer. Then I used this sentiment from the Five For All stamp set. I love this sentiment and have used it quite a bit. I have to say she loved the card.
