Hey everyone, happy Thursday!! Hard to believe it’s the last week of April!! So today we played with the April Paper Pumpkin kit. Were you able to watch my Facebook Live for it? If not, you can catch the replay over on my YouTube Channel. While you are there, I would love it if you subscribed to my channel and gave my video a thumbs up. So what did you think of this month’s kit? I know it was one that a lot of people didn’t care for, and it did take a moment for me to come up with some alternate ideas, but that’s the perfect push we need to get us to step out of our comfort zone. Let’s look at my scrapbook layout first.
Here are the measurements for my layout:
- Base in Basic White 12″ x 12″
- Polished Pink cardstock cut at 5″ x 11 1/2″
- Bermuda Bay cardstock cut at 3″ x 12″
- Pattern Party DSP cut at 5″ x 11 1/2″
- Basic White photo mats cut at 4 1/4″ x 6 1/4″ and 2″ x 3 3/4″ for the journaling label
I know that one of the kit colors is Melon Mambo, but for whatever reason I pulled out Polished Pink for one of my cardstocks and the ink I used to stamp my butterflies. I also used the Polished Pink ink for the sentiment stamp above the pictures. After I took these photos, I did stamp over the sentiment in black and showed it on the video. Looks much better! I started by attaching my layers together and then matting my photos and adding them to the base. Next I trimmed off the two short layers of the card, one I used with the back side up for my journaling label and the other I trimmed down for the flower bud embellishment next to the picture. For the date on my flag, I used the Days to Remember stamp set and some Bermuda Bay ink. Then I added the flowers and butterfly from the kit. For my bling, I used some adhesive backed sequins from a prior Paper Pumpkin kit. I have a retired wood mount case that I put all of my unused bling from Paper Pumpkin kits. I just can’t throw away any of it! lol I think this has to be one of my favorite Paper Pumpkin layouts ever, but then I think I say that every month. 🙂 Now let’s look at the cards.
I know there were a lot of really cute alternates out there. Since I get mine about a week after most people, I get to see a lot of fun inspiration! Here’s a look at card one:
Here are the measurements for my card:
- Card base in Bermuda Bay cardstock cut at 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″
- Kit card base cut in two pieces at 4″ x 5 1/4″
- Ombre Glimmer Paper cut at 4″ x 5 1/4″
I really wasn’t sure what to do with this one, so I went clean and simple with sparkle. I added the glimmer paper to the back of the card front with Mini Glue Dots. I love how the yellow shows through the openings on the moon and several of the stars. I then attached it to my card base. I added the clouds and star from the kit with dimensionals and for my bling, I added rhinestones as they give it a better star type shine.
For the inside, I added the other piece of the card base to the inside of the Bermuda Bay card base and stamped the sentiment in Bermuda Bay ink. The best part is I can use one of the envelopes from the kit for this card.
Let’s look at my second card that is a book fold card.
Here are the measurements for my card:
- Card base in Melon Mambo cut at 4 1/4″ x 11″, scored at 5 1/2″ and 6 3/4″
- Kit card base cut at 1″ x 4″ and two pieces cut at 4″ x 4″
This was a really easy card to create. I started with my card base. Have you ever made a book fold card? Super easy to create and makes for an adorable card. I didn’t use any ribbon as I didn’t want to take away from the pattern on the card. Once the card base was cut, I added adhesive to the inside of the card between the score lines to close up the card. Then I added the two layers to the card front. I took one of the flag strips and stamped the sentiment in Melon Mambo. So that it fit on the front without covering the cocoon image, I used the Banners Pick a Punch to shorten it. I then added it with dimensionals and add two of the bling pieces from the kit to the card front.
For the inside, I stamped the sentiment and the butterfly in Melon Mambo ink. Quick & easy card! I really do love the sentiments from this stamp set.
Like I said, it took a minute to get my mojo working with this kit, but over all, I think the sentiments in the stamp set made it worth it. Now, the kit for May is going to be perfect for the launch of the new 2022-2023 Annual Catalog as it is all about the new In Colors.
