Hey everyone! Here’s sneak peek #2 for Saturday’s Birthday Card Class. This card was created with the new Embossing Paste and then water coloring over it. The sentiment is from the Better Together stamp set. Isn’t it cute?
This card takes a little time to make only because of drying time involved for both the paste to dry, the watercolor to dry, and then the ink on the vellum to dry. This was the first time I have used the embossing paste and I have to say although it’s messy, it is a lot of fun to use! I love to bake and actually used to decorate cakes, so it reminded me of frosting a cake. It’s best to use some washi tape or painter’s tape to tape down your cardstock. Since I decide to water color it I used a piece of Shimmery White because it takes the water better than Whisper White. Once you’ve got the cardstock taped down, pick your mask and tape it down over the cardstock. Then choose one of the knives to spread some of the paste over the mask. Start with about a tablespoon and smear it on starting in one corner and working your way down adding more paste as you go. Be sure to keep your strokes even and check closely so as not to leave any scrape marks because it will dry just as it looks. As you scrape the paste over, you can wipe it back over the jar to save the excess. Warning! This is messy, so keep baby wipes or wet paper towels handy. And be sure to clean your palette knives and masks right away because when the paste dries, it’s like cement! Once you’ve covered the cardstock, remove the mask to let it dry. It only takes about 10 minutes, enough time to stamp your sentiment on the vellum and let it start drying.
Once the embossing paste was dry I took my aqua painter out and washed some water over the entire piece of cardstock. This helps the color float across the paste better. Then I took some Powder Pink ink and washed it over the top third of the card, then Sweet Sugarplum over the middle, and finally Berry Burst. It gives the card an ombre look. The vellum is cut at 2 1/2 by 6 1/4″ so that you can wrap the sides around the cardstock and tape it to the back before adding it to the card base. Once I added it to the card base I punched out a couple of balloons, added dimensionals and a couple of pieces of the black and white bakers twine and adhered it to the card and added a bow. Not a hard card to make, just a little more time consuming then others.
If you’ve never tried the embossing paste like me, you’ll want to give it a shot. There’s so much you can do with it! Spritz it with some ink, add glitter before it dries, or just leave it plain white. It’s definitely fun to play with!! Want to get some to add to your stash? Just head over here to place your order. When you place an order of $35.00 or more using Hostess Code 93HEHUC2, I’ll send you the project packet for all the cards we’ll be creating on Saturday.
