Welcome to another Fabulous Friday! Today we are creating a fun fold card using the new Hedgehugs stamp set. Those little chubby hedgehogs are sooooo stinking cute!! And with the different images and sentiments in the set, it made it easy to create today’s card. Did you get a chance to see the video? If not, you can view it here. Here are the measurements for this card:
- Card base in Marina Mist cut at 4 1/4″ x 11″, scored at 2 3/4″ and 5 1/2″
- Sahara Sand layer cut at 3 1/4″ x 10″, scored at 2 3/4″ and 5 1/2″
- Whisper White layers cut at 3″ x 4 1/4″ and (2) at 3″ x 2 1/5″
- Delightful Daisy DSP cut at 3″ x 1″
This card is a Z fold, but with bigger layers. I like how the two smaller panels complete the sentiments for a continual flow. Here’s a look at the card completely opened:
The hardest thing about this card was taking pictures of the front once it was finished. The inside layer is too short to fit in the floral frog for photographing, so I went with just laying it on my table. Whatever works, right? 😉
To start with the card, I first cut and scored the layers. Then I stamped the bird using my Stampin’ Write Markers to ink the different colors. I used Chocolate Chip for the branch, Pear Pizzazz for the leaves, and Marina Mist for the bird. You basically use the brush end of the marker and paint the ink onto the image. Once all the colors are on, you need to “huff” on the stamp to moisten the ink, then stamp like normal. Then I stamped the sentiment in Chocolate Chip ink. I adhered the DSP towards the bottom. Then I took some Linen Thread and wrapped it around the cardstock and adhered it down. I tied a double bow in the thread and added it in the middle with a glue dot. Then I stamped the hedgehogs in Crumb Cake, one on each of the smaller layers of Whisper White. You can wipe off the flower with a baby wipe and color the flower with the markers, or just color it in afterwards and trace over the stem using the Marina Mist and Pear Pizzazz markers. The flowers in the bottom panel was stamped using the markers. Here’s look at each of the panels:
Aren’t they adorable? They just make me smile!
Now to add the Sahara Sand layer, I added adhesive to the top of the layer that has the bird and laid it down about a 1/2 inch below the edge of the short side of the Marina Mist layer. I closed the card, flipped it open and added adhesive to the back of the adorable you layer, then closed the card again. That seemed to be the easiest way for me. You can check it out in the video. Then I added some rhinestones and called it done. It’s not a difficult card at all. And it’s nice to have something a little different then the traditional fold.
