Welcome to another Fabulous Friday! Today is the 3rd in a series called Bye-bye Bundles and we are featuring the Colorful Seasons Bundle. This bundle will carry forward to the new catalog, but the bundle discount will not be available. I just this set, not only for the cute font of the sentiments, but those framelits as well. There’s just so much you can do with it! Today’s card is also a technique card. We’re to create a scene using sponges and daubers. Have you seen today’s video yet? If not, you can check it out on my Youtube Channel. Here are the measurements for the card:

  • Card base in Pool Party cardstock cut at 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″
  • Whisper White cut at 4″ x 5 1/4″ and two at 3 3/4″ x 5″

To create this scene I took a piece of scrap cardstock that 5″ wide and tore one of the sides to create a landscape mask. Holding on one of the 3 3/4″ x 5″ pieces of Whisper White towards the bottom third of the card, I took one of our sponges and inked in Sahara Sand, I began sponging on the ink at the mask line. After I layered some on, I took another sponge in Crumb Cake ink and layered on some of that ink. You need to build layers of ink to get the effect you want and to fade in any lines you may have created. I removed the mask, then layered both colors on where the mask had been covering it up until I got the sandy effect I wanted. Then I created another mask for the horizon and also created a sun mask by punching out a 1/2″ circle and snipping the the bottom off so as not to have a complete circle. I wanted it to be a setting sun. Once I had the shape I wanted, I added a tiny bit of Snail Adhesive so that the sun mask would stick. Now since you don’t want this to stick permanently, you need to “de-sticky” the adhesive a little by tapping it on some scrap cardstock or even your jeans. This way when you stick it to your card, it will remove easily without leaving any marks on the cardstock. I then layered on the second landscape mask about an inch above the sand, added the sun to it, then began layering on some Pool Party all around the top third of the card. I took a sponge with some Melon Mambo ink and just inked a tiny bit on each side of the sun. Then I inked up a sponge with some Night of Navy and sponged around all the edges of the cardstock. You don’t want a really heavy hand here since this is a very dark color. Just enough to give it a twilight effect. I removed both masks and with a dauber, I filled in the sun area and a little bit around the circle to give it a glowing effect. To fill in the water I layered on some Pool Party then quite a bit of Marina Mist. I also added a little bit of Marina Mist to the sky as well, taking care not to get it in the sun. I then stamped the sentiment in Early Espresso down in the lower left corner. I had already die cut the Adirondack chair in Whisper White, so I cut a couple of thin strips of dimensionals to add to the back, then layered it on the card front. I adhered this piece of cardstock to the larger Whisper White layer to frame the scene, then added it to the card base. Next I added some Wink of Stella to the water to give it a shimmery effect. Then I repeated some sponging of Sahara Sand on the bottom of the inside piece of Whisper White and Pool Party on the top to continue the theme of the card. I stamped the little drink in Pool Party on the lower left and the sentiment in Early Espresso. I just love that sentiment and the font just makes the whole thing feel relaxing.

I just love the sponging technique because you can do so much with it and is very forgiving for new stampers. If you are new to sponging, let me give you a tip. Our sponges come in about 3″ circles. I cut mine into fourths, then I attach a piece of cardstock punched with the label punch in whatever color I’m using. That way I can save that sponge to use again and again with that color. I purchased a container from Walmart for $5.00 that is normally used for fishing lures or something like that and labeled all the spaces for each color. Works great and I don’t have to worry about mixing up colors. And it was cheap!!  🙂

Now you know you want to get this bundle before the discount pricing goes away in a couple of weeks. You can shop 24/7 at my online store and when you use Hostess Code 3JQ9N9HR, I will send you a pack of handmade cards. If you purchase $50.00 or more, I’ll include a surprise with those cards. It’s hard to believe that the end of the current Annual Catalog is coming, but that’s ok, because there’s new stuff just around the corner!!

Thank you for stopping by and I hope you have a Fabulous Friday!
