Hey everyone! Welcome to another Fabulous Friday! With Halloween just days away I wanted to create something with a Halloween theme. I found the technique called Black Magic and knew with that name, I had to create something with it. This technique takes a little time to complete only because of the drying time involved with the ink and water coloring. Here are the measurements on the card:
- Card base in Thick Very Vanilla cardstock 8 1/2 x 5 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″
- Pumpkin Pie cardstock 5 1/4 x 4″
- Spooky Cat DSP 5 x 3 3/4″
- Pumpkin Pie cardstock 3 1/4 x 3 1/4″
- Basic Black cardstock 3 x 3″
So to create the black magic effect, you start with a piece of black cardstock. I first stamped the sentiment on the base of the square with Versa Mark, then heat embossed it with White Embossing Powder. Then I stamped the jack o’lantern with the Whisper White Craft ink. Now this image is to create a tag, so you need to mask the back side of the jack o’lantern with a sticky note. If you’re in a hurry to complete this, you could use the heat gun to dry it faster. Once it’s dried, take out the white watercolor pencil and color the entire image. You want to make sure to lay down a heavy layer of the white, so use firm pressure. Once that’s done, add green on the leaves and the stem, and orange for the pumpkin. Then take an aqua painter filled with water and get the brush end damp. You don’t want it soaking wet, just damp enough to blend the colors. Then paint lightly to blend the colors being careful not to pull too much color from any one spot. If you need to, you can let it dry and add more pencil and watercolor again. It’s all in the layering of color. Once you’re satisfied with the look, let it dry. Once dry, take your gel pen and outline the image and add accent dots around the image. Then assemble the card. Adhere the dsp to the Pumpkin Pie, add the ribbon towards the bottom and adhere to the Very Vanilla card base. Adhere the black to the Pumpkin Pie, attach to card base using dimensionals. Add some of the Glitter Enamel Dots and you’re done! Pretty cool technique if you ask me. If you haven’t seen the video yet, you can go here to see it.
